All Groups -- Central Group -- Cavalry -- Artillery -- Details

The west side of the cavalry group depicts the seven men & horses of the regiment's color squad charging into battle. To the right of the man leading the charge, lies a fallen horse and a stunned rider. Shrady used his own face as the model for this man. The rider behind the fallen horse desperately shields his face in his arm as if preparing to fall himself. The corporal bringing up the rear, sword pointing downward, pulls back on his mare's reins to avoid a collision.
