Union Station: COLUMBUS, Christopher: Memorial Fountain (1912) in Washington, D.C.

Columbus looks beyond the winged figurehead representing Discovery on the ship's prow. On his right, facing west, is an American Indian representing the New World. On his left, facing east (see image below), is an elderly man representing the Old World. Above him, supported by four eagles, is a sphere bearing the outline of the western hemisphere.
The Progress of Railroading statue visible in the background at roof level is that of Apollo.

The three flagpoles represent the ships that carried the Columbus discovery party to the New World. Atop each pole an eagle perches on a small sphere (see image below).

Isabella and Ferdinand are the Spanish monarchs who financed the expedition.
Queen Isabella is also memorialized at the O.A.S. building.
