[Ed. Note: Ole Heggebo traveled on the S.S. Cedric with Alert from Liverpool to New York City]

Madison, 29, September 1909
Dear friend,

I have got your letter, for which I say thank so much. I can see by the letter that Slaughter Bø [JÆRDE SLAUGHTER BØ] and KARI THUNE have been "svesste" [slang for married] she has got something in her belly, too, I hear.

You are writing that you are going to Dakota. Come to Madison [Wisconsin], and stay here during the winter. Here is plenty of work. I have started in a shop, and they pay now $1.75, that's what I get, and others, too, then you will be sure to have work during the winter, and in the spring you can go to Dakota, because in summer you will get work there and well paid, but during the winter it is hard to say.

I do not know more to write this time, write and tell me when you will be here, and I will be at the depot. Write back soon. In the end you are greeted

with love from
Ole Heggebo, 112 Jenefer St.
