Dearest Olga

Yes now it is truly my turn to write some words. Have received your two letters and thank you so much. " Thank you so very much". I should have written a long time ago but I am so slow at writing. Today it is raining so I must keep on the inside, and since I have so much to write about (to you) this time, that must be the reason why it is raining. Otherwise, Olga, I would have thought of going for a car ride. Oh gosh, if you only could have been so much closer, then you could have come along (with me), shouldn’t you have liked that?

See from your letter that you have celebrated 17.May [Norwegian independence day] good for you. When one is another man’s servant, one has to first and last look after one’s work, so there will not be much time to spare for oneself, you know. I presume you shall go home for a while during summer. It is certainly so that it requires a lot of help if one wants to have something done there back home, and one has to work hard as well.

(Upside down text: - Many thanks for your picture"Ja..")

If you go home, you must surely take a trip up home (to Ivar and Sigrid) [Alert's parents] they have so much work before them. It throws a bad light on me leaving (them with) the hard work back home, but you know that I could not do it any other way. But I shall take a lift (of the burden) anyway, and I have and shall send them enough money so that they will not come in debt in any way, and that is more than if I should have stayed home with no money, you know.

Yes I truly do not know yet what I will do. When one sees all the hard work and the low income, then it’s really not much to settle down for, even more so for someone who has something better. But as you will know, someone has to live there as well. And since one has not seen anything better, things will work out. But I had not been capable at sitting back home if I didn’t know what I should work and strive. And then you can have it good wherever you are in the world.

No Olga you should really see to it and come over here to America. You are certainly not married to the Skor valley, or to somebody else, as far as I know. I had such a desire to tell you something before I left, but as I had the opportunity, I didn’t use it, and in the last weeks I had such a small (chance)- you know. I hope you understand me.

I think you will never regret what you do. If I thought you would (regret), I would never think of writing anything like this.

You shall get everything under the sun you may wish, as far as I can arrange it, and I think I can. And I do not think you will long so much back home to the Skor valley either, should I hope. The worst part is (illegible word) lock, you know. Well, Olga , I am not able to write anything more this time. I hope that you take no offense (by this letter), which I do not think that you will. And then I hope you will find the time to send some words.

From a friend, Albert.
Shall send one (greeting?) on (illegible name?) from Skor.
