Landåsveien,
the 21. September 1928

My loved Allbert !

A heartfelt thanks for the letter I have received, and another thanks for all the good things which were in the package. But you will get something similar, you as well. A tiny little letter, that is all. But I hope, if I keep my health, that I will once be of some pleasure for you. And then you will send even more to me?

I had considered not writing before I had been in there, where you asked me to go in your last letter [U.S. Consulate]. But I stayed longer here than I had decided to, and now it has been so busy that I have had no time to go to town. The man in the house has been lying ill with blood poisoning a while now, and then they asked if I could not stay a while longer. But fortunately he is now well again, so I do not have many days left (here), before I go home. And then I will submit an application for permission (to enter the USA), for the time you wish.

Yes, Albert, if it only would have come that way, then a lot of people would have snapped for breath, when they did not know of anything before (the day) I would go. I think it is best it is kept secret for those in Skor who have no part in it, or else I will probably be eaten alive if they got to know it. Yes, you know how some have it. You are right in that my parents have nothing against that I shall go. My mother is fearful of my trip, but I think that since you will be so kind and come to New York; then it can not be so dangerous. She was mad because I had not told it (to her) before. They agree to that I will not continue to live at home.

Yes, I shall be brave as far as my courage holds up, and then I will tell them the right thing (to do) as far as possible. And then my mother finds me too young and unexperienced to take care of a household on my own yet. She may now be right about that. But I hope that it must improve. I will have a good help in Fina. Yes, my dear. A thousand thanks shall you have that you will send me a ticket. It comes in handy. (It is needed). So Fina shall leave for her new home in autumn. Yes, she has had to show that she has been working hard for others. It is good for her that she now can work for herself. I became a liar to her because of what I wrote in the letter to her. I said that I would be gone away (serving) this winter also. As I got a letter from you, I changed my mind and decided to stay at home. So now we will all be in one place for a while. It seems to become a bad year everywhere, also at home. There will be few potatoes, and the corn does not get fully ripe, and then it is rainy storm weather, so they are not able to bring in and save the tiny harvest into the barn either. Otherwise, I do not know how things are in Skor valley now. Yeah, some have been going away to road work, some time ago. It is said to be silent and peaceful now, in the sense that it is not so much "playing" going on. [Obviously she is referring to parties and youth "games"]

I have no courage to write more tonight. Shall write as soon as I come home.

A loving greeting from your Olga.

A friendly greeting to Fina.

Thank you for wanting to send me a ring, but that can wait until later.
