Norway Vacation August 2005
(Oslo, Sogn, Bergen, Stavanger)

We (Marv, Sharon, Erika Solberg & Denise Solberg Gildon) had a fantastic time during our two weeks in Norway. We visited 4 different areas, staying with cousins in each place. In all we met 50 cousins (17 on Albert's side, 33 on Olga's side) -- anywhere from 2nd cousin to 4th cousin once removed. It was a wonderful time. We were treated so well and enjoyed many beautiful sights. Some of the things we did & saw are documented below.

Aug 8-11 (Mon-Thu): At Ingunn Solaas & Oskar Mørk's farm at Svindal, near Fetsund (about 30 minutes from Oslo)
- Tue 9 Aug:
  - Riding with Synnøve.
  - Erika driving a manual transmission
  - "Formal" dinner by Ingunn
- Wed 10 Aug:
  - 4-hour Oslo tour
    - Boat
    - Bus (Vigeland Park, Viking Ship Museum, Kon Tiki Museum, Lunch with Ingunn etc.)
  - 18:00: Marv ran in the Sognsvann Rundt Medsols (9.774Km) with Petter Grinden (Synnøve's boyfriend) at a nice easy pace (Results).
- Thu 11 Aug: Oslo -- Shopping, Nobel Peace Center, Folk Museum
Aug 12 (Fri) Rental van to Solaas in Sogn (9am until almost midnight)
- Glass factory
- Historic Route (Borgund Stave church)
- Sogn og Fjordane border
- Førde -- Bernt & Kjellfried
Aug 13-15 (Sat-Mon) With Trygve & Anne Rita Solaas's home in Hyllestad in Sogn (Solaas)
- Sat 13 Aug:
  - Haakon's music (part 1) & Solaasgjerdet
  - On Trygve's boat to Færøy to visit Dorothea's descendants
- Sun 14 Aug:
  - To Vaagset & Furebotn with Haakon & Trygve
  - Dinner at Nautsund with some of Agnes' descendants
  - Haakon's music (part 2)
- Mon 15 Aug -- rainy day:
  - Visit from Bernt, Kjellfried & Arvid
  - Afjorden & Millstone park
  - Ruth
  - Watermill
Aug 16 - 18 (Tue - Thu) At Hilde & Kjell's house near Bergen
- Tue 16 Aug:
  - Express boat to Bergen (2 hours)
  - Dinner
  - Floi banen
- Wed 17 Aug:
  - Bryggen tour
  - Fish market
- Thu 18 Aug
  - Bergen bus tour (Gamle Bergen, Grieg, etc)
  - Fana Folklore
  - Lillian Samdal visit
Aug 19 - 22 (Fri - Mon) At Asgeir & Eva Haugedal's home in Kleppe (near Stavanger)
- Fri 19 Aug:
  - About 4 hours by Flaggruten Express boat
  - North Sea beach
- Sat 20 Aug:
  - 13:30: Marv ran the Stavanger Marathon in 4:46:28. (Results)
  - Shopping & sightseeing in Stavanger
- Sun 21 Aug:
  - Månefossen
  - Dinner, Candle factory/store
  - Samdals
- Mon 22 Aug:
  - Shopping in Kleppe
  - Helene & Per Haugedal's
